Pick n Pay

Pick N Pay logo

The Ackerman Pick n Pay foundation’s primary objective is to enable South Africans to provide for themselves while aspiring to improve their lives and contribute to their communities.

We want to make a measurable contribution to sustainable development by enhancing and developing skills and projects that encourage entrepreneurship and self-reliance, and provide employment opportunities.

We believe that sustainable enterprise development can relieve conditions of poverty and unemployment, and uplift the quality of life of marginalised and disadvantaged emerging entrepreneurs.

One of our most successful endeavours has been linking emerging farmers to Pick n Pay Stores – the most difficult challenge for emerging farmers has traditionally been market access.  Communities are encouraged to run their enterprises using sound business principles, and guidance and ongoing mentorship is provided to assist in this regard.

About Ster-Kinekor Theatres

Ster-Kinekor Theatres is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Primedia Group and is acknowledged as one of the jewels in the group’s crown, particularly in financial terms, with attendances increasing annually despite the recessionary environment – attesting to the belief that going to the movies is a perfect way to escape the pressures of daily life, even if just for a few hours. To most South Africans, the word ‘movies’ is synonymous with the name ‘Ster-Kinekor’; the biggest movie exhibitor by far (more than double the size of its nearest competitor), Ster-Kinekor owns some 60-65% of the market, boasting some 56 movie complexes in South Africa (around 400 screens and 63 000 seats) and a growing number of state-of-the-art 3D cinemas as well as complexes in neighbouring territories.

About Vision Mission

Vision Mission operates throughout the year nationally. They have screened over 54 000 disadvantaged learners since 2005, in conjunction with the Departments of Health and Education.

Funds for the Vision Mission initiative are raised jointly through Ster-Kinekor Theatres, its customers and the general public – who can make donations as small as R2.50 when booking movie tickets either through the Self-Service Terminals in Ster-Kinekor Cinemas nationwide or the company’s website
